How to Get a Library Card

Local residents and those who work locally may obtain a library card in person at the Library.  You must show proof of residency/local employment.  The first library card is free, but if the card is lost, the replacement charge for a new card is $1.  Patrons outside of the Westchester Library System may obtain a card for an annual fee of $75.

Borrowing Period & Renewal Policy

Books/Audio Books/Playaways:  Most Lewisboro Library and inter-library loan books have a 21-day loan period.  You may place holds on these books, and they may be renewed if there is not a hold in the system.  Exceptions to this are:

New Books  -  new releases that are circulated within the Westchester Library System.  There is a 14-day loan period on New Books.  You may place holds on these books, and they may be renewed if there is not a hold in the system.

Express Books -  copies of new best sellers that are circulated within this library only.  There is a 7-day loan period on Express Books, they are not renewable and they may not be reserved or held.                                                    .                                                                                  

DVDs/Videos:  Most Lewisboro Library and inter-library loan DVDs and videos have a 7-day loan period.  You may place holds on these items, and they may be renewed if there is not a hold in the system.  Exceptions to this are:

Express Copies - copies of new releases that are circulated within this library only.  There is a 7-day loan period on Express DVDs/Videos, they are not renewable and they may not be reserved or held. 

CD-Roms: Children’s titles that are circulated within the Westchester Library   System.  There is a 14-day loan period on CD-Roms.  You may place holds on these titles, and they may be renewed if there is not a hold in the system.

Fees/Fines     

Late Fees vary from library to library.  The fees noted below are for those materials belonging to the Lewisboro Library.

Books:  There is a late fee of 20-cents per day for books that are returned past their loan period.  The maximum fine assessed for overdue books is $5.

DVDs/Videos:  There is a late fee of $1 per day for all DVDs and videos that are returned past their loan period.  The maximum fine assessed for overdue DVDs and videos is $10.

CD-Roms: There is a late fee of $1 per day for all CD-Roms that are returned past their loan period.  The maximum fine assessed for overdue CD-Roms is $10.

All videos are to be rewound before being returned, out of courtesy for the next patron. There is a fine of $1 for any video that is returned without being rewound.

While the fines on overdue materials are relatively low at the Lewisboro Library other libraries’ fines have increased.  If you reserve a book from another library in the Westchester Library System, you are subject to that owning library’s late fee.  These late fees can range from 25˘ per day for books to $3 per day for movies.

Patrons with $10.00 or more in Outstanding Fees will NOT be allowed to check out any Library materials until the fees are paid.

Wireless Internet Access     

Wireless Internet access is now available at the Lewisboro Library.  We invite you to explore our high-speed Internet access using your own wireless-enabled laptop or pda.

In order to connect, your computer must have a WiFi-compatible network card installed (802.11b or 802.11g).  We also recommend a charged battery, as electrical outlets are limited.
